After restoring an 1830’s vintage home outside of Merrickville, Paul has now turned his attention to the creation of prize-winning turned objects in his shop/studio at his residence, “Chequers”. Here, he works in collaboration with his wife Gunilla who has also recently taken up woodturning.
Using both spindle and faceplate turning techniques he has experimented with a wide variety of items and has yet to limit his work to a specific type of turning and prefers to create functional items such as pepper mills, lamps and candle stands.
Much of his work has been done using native maple as a base element, often incorporating imported woods to highlight both the form and features. All pieces are hand finished with non-toxic oil and wax.
